  • IMACO and Three Other Organizations Host the 9th Capacity-Building Workshop for Korean UNESCO-accredited NGOs

The International Mask Arts & Culture Organization (IMACO), a UNESCO-accredited NGO in Korea, together with the National Heritage Center, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Institute, and the World Martial Arts Union, held the 9th Capacity-Building Workshop for Korean UNESCO-accredited NGOs over a two-day period from May 15 to 16, 2025, in and around Hahoe Village and Byeongsan Seowon.

The Korean Council of UNESCO-accredited NGOs, established in 2017, was formed with the participation of Korea-based NGOs accredited by UNESCO to promote the transmission and development of intangible cultural heritage both domestically and internationally. Since its inception, the council has organized annual workshops for its member organizations to share their projects, explore cooperation opportunities, and discuss relevant UNESCO policies.

This year’s workshop focused particularly on open dialogue regarding the future direction of each participating NGO, and included in-depth discussions on solidifying the council’s structure and strengthening its role—especially in terms of securing national funding and taking more initiative in joint efforts.
